Haitian Dance and Drum Conference is an annual expedition into Haitian Culture through Dance, Songs, Drums that was started in September 2000 as "Haitian Drum Kamp".
In 2002 , through an artistic collaboration between Michelle Martin and Zeke Nealy, this event evolved and began offering workshops in dance, songs, and other media led by local, national, and international artists whose life-energies have been dedicated to studying, promoting, performing, and preserving Haitian Culture.
Most recently, we have begun to collaborate with Cultural Odyssey, Rhythm and Motion/ODC Dance Commons, the Malonga Casquelourde Center for Art, Dance Mission Studio, Laney College, and Dimensions Extension Youth Program to develop consistent events that celebrate Haitian culture.
Haitian Kamp 2009 is also supported by grants from the Alliance for California Traditional Arts, the Zellerbach Family Foundation Fund, & the Morris Kramer Foundation.
Haitian Kamp is a not-for-profit annual event. Tax-deductible donations are encouraged.
